AAAAGGGGHHHH! That's the sound I make when people say you can't make a living from children's books.
Seriously! I heard this so often when I started out. "You can't make a living as a children's author in Australia." It was one of the main reasons I was determined to do so, because a) I am counter-suggestible, and b) I just couldn't believe it was true.
There were two reasons I didn't believe it. One was that making a living means different things to different people, so how can you say someone can't make a living if you don't know what their "living" is?
And the second is I knew there were Australian authors making a very good living from their books!
So, in this section, we're going to look at what making a living might mean, both in general and for you!
